So, we finally have our first video documentry. It is interesting to say the least, they mainly discuss how it will so much better than KOTOR 1 & 2 and how much bigger it will be. You will see some pre pruduction footage that they claim that they havn’t showed anyone else, besides us, the fans.
Overall the footage looked pretty good to me. I’ll be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.
We will also be announcing the winner of the “Why aren’t they listening contest” shortly!
BioWare® and LucasArts™ share the vision for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ in our first video documentary, complete with new concepts, new screenshots, and real-time pre-production gameplay video. Hear about the approach to storytelling straight from The Old Republic’s Creative Director and Lead Designer James Ohlen and Principal Lead Writer Daniel Erickson, and watch Art Director Jeff Dobson discuss the aesthetic appeal of stylized realism.

It’s not bad for alpha material. But the scenes are still too colorfull and the combat is also too fast and not smooth enough.

This looks awfull.Colors are way too bright.Character animations and skins look kind of cheesy. They should just scratch the whole mmo thing and stick to Xbox 360
Nick on Sat, 20th Dec 2008 4:26 pm
Well I would much rather see it go to xbox360 to keep with its xbox track.
Ron on Sat, 20th Dec 2008 5:00 pm
I agree witht he scratching of the mmo thing. It seemed that you were able to make decision in kotor 2 and 2 that effected the entire galaxy. How will you be able to make these decision with other people running around doing what they want to. I recommend a kotor 3, with Revan and a storyline that fits only for the single player style.
Robert on Sat, 20th Dec 2008 7:17 pm
Iwas really looking forward to Kotor 3. I want to be in sole control of the game and I wanted to finish the story line of 1 and 2. I didn’t want nor do I want the stupid mmo version that in no way connects to the original old republic series. I’m very disappointed and heart broken. Thanks for nothing George

Belch at the combat… Abysmal.. I’ve lost all hope on this beautiful timeline of starwars… we should all hold a memorial service on the day it releases… marking the death of a great franchise….

*sigh*… I would like to withdraw my previous objections from the MMO’ing of KotOR.
At this point in time, I will attempt to reserve judgement.
Good luck BioWare, with EA and Lucasarts on your back, you’ll need it.

……I just don’t know anymore. I like MMO, I like Star Wars, I like an open universe (maybe not that open), but I don’t really like the idea of a Star Wars MMO. I’m still gonna buy it and try it. If I like it, I’ll keep it and if I don’t like it…there’s always the pawn shop.

Like alot of people i’m quite dissapointed at TOR being an MMO.
I’m mostly annoyed at the fact that they are passing this off as a replacement to KOTOR 3. As much as i enjoy lore, I do not want to read briefly about what happens to Revan, I want to be able to experience it for myself.
If TOR is going to be a permanent replacement for KOTOR 3..Then atleast hope that a writer (preferably Drew Karpyshyn) picks up the finale in the form of a book..
Oh well…I can dream.
Prestige on Sun, 21st Dec 2008 10:28 pm
Are you guys seriously being that prejudgmental? Keep in mind this game is in the pre-production stage, meaning pre-alpha, meaning pre-beta, meaning far from any sort of a finished product. This is what the majority of games look like in the beta stage, let alone the pre-alpha. Allow me to remind you that, at this point, all detail is entirely conceptual and very little thought is afforded for shadowing and environment textures.
Show some maturity and patience. This is obviously not what the finished product is going to look like. I am excited to see what else Bioware has in store for The Old Republic. And I am confident that it will look nothing like “Disney” or “World of Warcraft.”
Please.
Ghostrider on Sun, 21st Dec 2008 11:55 pm
Yes, the mmo thing is extremely disappointing. I’m a casual gamer who just wants to enjoy a nice storyline engaging yet not too difficult gameplay and nice graphics.
MMOs are for hardcore fans and eventually come down to grinding. If you don’t keep playing on a regular basis, join a guild and abide by it’s schedule there will be very little fun in the game for you.
I enjoyed KOTOR 1 and 2 a great deal and it’s very sad to see Lucas and Co just go after the long buck (the idea is that MMOs are more profitable than traditional games and maybe they are). However I’ll not be signing up for KOTOR MMO – it just not going to be worth it.
Andrew on Mon, 22nd Dec 2008 12:47 am
They should have went with the idea I came up with. This story and title are doomed. I dont care if you can do thousands of things in Tor, it looks like a damn Wii game on speed.

Ok, First of all I am also shocked at the idea of it being and MMORPG but guys two things… First did you HEAR HIM? He said every little thing you chat will be affecting the Galaxy of YOU”RE CHARACTER! Not only that but it is not named KOTOR3 It is named TOR. In which that means our hope for a new KOTOR3 is not all lost. We should have an open mind about the next game, try it out, and either play it or hate it but that still doesn’t mean all hope is lost for KOTOR3!
Brent on Mon, 22nd Dec 2008 3:45 pm
So they aren’t going to finish the story line with a kotor 3? Why? So now we don’t know what happens with revan and the “True sith” and we will NEVER know. I for one will not waste my money on something as stupid as an MMO…. Thanks lucas arts….

You ruined the series on Mon, 22nd Dec 2008 4:38 pm
Bioware have totally destroyed one of the greatest game series of all times, so too have Lucus arts for allowing them to make this game an MMO. We know exactly why they are making it an MMO: for the sole reason of stealing our hard earned money by forcing us to pay a monthly fee for their greedy pockets. I would be very angry if we’re mislead into paying for an average game of thousands of other players world wide, and the result: losing our status as the most powerful character in a poor game.
KOTOR story revolves around me, since it won’t if this game is made an MMO I will not buy it! I’m not interested in multiple players equal to me! I am god in the game!
So much could be achieved on the XBOX 360 and PS3: I would make KOTOR 3 a one player game on the XBOX 360 where the story will be played out. Only then will I give the players the option of playing online against thousands of players. I want the option of playing other humans, I don’t like being forced into playing others! If I could, i’d force lightning the a-hole whose decision it was to make this game an MMO! Millions of fans of the KOTOR series will be extremely unhappy with an MMO! I sure hope Bioware can truely ensure us a great online game or face the consequences of losing millions of KOTOR fans who are already pissed off that our opinions of how we play are disregarded! Remember we pay your bills! No fans = no players = no money for you! Say good bye to your pretty mansions!
KOTOR is a billion times better than the movies: Revan, Exile, Sion etc etc make Darth Sidious, Anakin/Vader, Yoda, Luke seem as weak as a pussy! The story of the series is legendary: I’ve lost count how many times i’ve played KOTOR 1/2 just to enjoy the story, as opposed to the boring and very predictable movies. Lucasarts need to pull their penis out of the movie characters!!!! And focus on new characters!! The movie series is finished, we know everything about losers like Sidious and Vader! Quit wasting our time with those retards! KOTOR and other expanded universe characters and stories are critical to Star Wars: it revitalises Star Wars with fresh new characters and stories!
Moronic meatbags!
Brad on Tue, 23rd Dec 2008 12:05 pm
I’m actually very excited to see how this game will play out. I love MMO’s and i loved the KOTOR series. I have a lot of hope for this and I know Lucas Arts, EA, and Bioware will do an amazing job. And i’m thinking it will be a game to play over live on the 360

Everyone needs to chill out. Bioware is a mulitmillion dollar company and they know what their doing. They have been creating new and innovative games for year, and going into the MMO market is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. They are planning on changing the the stucture of MMOs by bring stories to live. For anyone thats played an MMO, this will be Star Wars Galaxies on roids. So I say thank you Bioware, I still have Faith!
Exilekuhn on Tue, 23rd Dec 2008 2:17 pm
Kotor 3* is really imperative I think. Considering the way 2 left off.. It is only natural that it at least ends on a denominator of 3!
Though an MMO Star Wars sounds interesting, especially since Sony completely failed in their attempt..
But I agree that a starwars game should keep a steady focus on the relationship between your decisions and THE entire universe; I would suggest perhaps balancing the condition of it’s entire online “world” on the collective activity of it’s players, making the storyline much more dynamic in it’s apliance to the story and what happens. And so making it much more “real time” than most other mmo’s.. for example, the majority of it’s player-base is doing evil.. That might affect things overall in some way? But of course putting some sort of cap on it’s re-conditioning, since that would pretty much kill the playability of the entire game.
Hopefully they do SOMETHING to this affect, because basically, MMO’s reject the player’s desire for some sort of sentimentality through storyline and plot – with it’s impartiallity due to the mass cycling of events as hundreds of players do the same thing over and over. AND Star Wars is probably the worst possible theme to MMO.
Anyway. I saw a closeup of a model’s face in that preview, and it resembles that shitty cartoon incarnation wayyy too much. They best fix that at least. If they don’t. I hope they rott in hell. Because that would be a degeneration of Lucas’s vision, much too much child appeal.
Spoken by a true jedi. on Tue, 23rd Dec 2008 2:23 pm
Making this game, or playing it will be like falling to the dark side!
MMO’s Ruin EVERYTHING,
It got to LOTR (lord of the rongs)
It got to DBZ
and now SW!! and it’s best game too!
that’s it i officially hate mmo’s
Tyler on Tue, 23rd Dec 2008 3:27 pm
This Sucks so much! What they should do is combine Kotor 1 and Kotor 2 together. Making your guy search for Revan, while each choice you make decides if you will join Revan at the end or fight him. And the graphics suck too.
Reven 23456 on Tue, 23rd Dec 2008 4:32 pm
Hi guys, Reven 23456 here- Sorry, but I’ve got the holidays breathing down my neck even as I write this post, so I’ll have to be quick.
First off, sorry for going so long without a post; I’ve barely had enough time to eat regularly with all this Christmas madness with the family, much less go online. I’m especially sorry for not posting in the “why are they not listening contest”, something I feel I had a hand in initiating – oh well, I have all the star wars games I want, anyway:). On the one last note I have time to make on this Christmas eve-eve, I love the new web design. And to Mr. Admin, who wrote in another post I missed about adding a forum, yes, I would LOVE one! If its not to much to ask, of course. It would be great to hold conversations in forum boards rather than the comments list. Once again, sorry for the short post, but times are chaotic right now (as they surly are for everyone), and, as much as I love it, I just don’t have time to write a 5 page essay on TOR and how much it bites me in the as. No worries though- as soon as the holidays are over, I plan to start commenting on these new posts as soon as possible – and BOY do I have a little something to say about this particular piece of work Lucasarts (or should I say EA mini-me) calls a “teaser”…
See ya after Christmas though, and happy holidays to everyone. See ya

I think that having it as an mmo is pretty gay. They should just dump this idea and finish Kotor 3. Making Star Wars an mmo is probably the most stupid thing you could do, especially to Kotor, one of the best Star Wars game series ever. Finish it off with Kotor 3 and I would like to see what happens to Revan and the Exile. I play Kotor 1 and 2 over and over just for the storyline and plot. Make Kotor 3 like the first two only maybe this time have Revan and Exile confront each other. Thanks

Okay, I’m not a gamer at all (not 100% sure what MMO means) but I will say this…
My roommate got an XBOX360 about two years ago and got a few gmaes. He knows I’m a Star Wars junkie so he bought KOTOR 1 for me. I loved it! First, it was just for the storyline, but then I was really getting into the game itself. I have played both KOTOR1/2 about 6-7 times each and I was biting my nails for the KOTOR 3. I recently got Force Unleashed (a lot of fun, really short though.) So, I finished the game tonight and thought I would see if there was an update on KOTOR 3…and I found it. Again, I am a relative newbie to all this so when I saw the preview I was psyched! But then I read the postings here and realized this new TOR isn’t going to be a game I can play, and that bums me out big time.
So, I have a question for all the folks at Bioware, LucasArts, whomever, what are you going to sell ME? I have zero desire to play in any kind of public format, I don’t want to buy a different gaming sytems and I have been waiting a long time for the KOTOR follow up. Now, I am a businessman and I can understand not developing something if it doesn’t make you any money, but is that the case with KOTOR? Star Wars is modern mythology, and not to have a proper conclusion is a quite annoying. Another point, why should I buy any other game from you knowing that you might leaving me with a cliffhanger that will never be answered…”fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.”
Again, I am not a gamer, just a guy who likes to play on the weekends on a cold and foggy day (which is so often is in SF.) I’m not “mad” because I can spend my money and time doing other things, I’m just really dissapointed Most games look pretty much the same to me, but I am always drawn to Star Wars, I think they are all great! However I am seriously dissapointed at the decisions being made regarding the platform of TOR. I am very curious to here what your focus groups are saying.
Again, my question is…what are you going to sell me now?

I too am very disappointed that KOTOR III will not be a console build RPG and will instead be known henceforth at TOR. For me, the week in which I played KOTOR I was one of the happiest and eye opening game experiences of my life, and although KOTOR II was an abysmal, Beta released abomination on the Star Wars name, once I got passed its inherent flaws, it was a deep game in both storyline and weaponry. That said, I am willing to give Bioware and Lucas Arts the benefit of the doubt with TOR (ick!) and preemptively commend them for making an MMO with a storyline worthy of this franchise, and vow to interact as little as possible with the elitest fanboys who will inevitably pwn me at this game because I will rest assured that I indeed pwn them at life.
Dreamweaver on Sat, 27th Dec 2008 10:24 am
Personally I am eager to see how this game works out. I’ve never been a Star Wars fan but I loved KOTOR I and II. I’m also glad to see it back in the hands of Bioware rather than Obsidion after their abysmal failure with Neverwinter Nights 2 and their poor support of KOTOR II.
It’d be nice if the game also had a single player campaign but I am definately looking forward to playing Star Wars online. My only reservation is a monthly fee. I absolutely refuse to pay a monthly fee to play a game. I’d rather just stick to Xbox live and the PSN. Why pay a monthly fee for one game when with that same fee you can play a multitude of games online?
However I know that Bioware is not past offering online play for free as they have done so in the past. I guess we’ll see what happens.

I want to find out what happens with Revan, the Exile, Bastila, and Carth. I loved those games…and their just throwing the best of them away.
revan on Sun, 28th Dec 2008 1:29 am
The designers kept saying you will be stuck with your choices, you can’t save and reload. In what way is this a good thing?
The great thing about KOTOR I & II was largely predicated upon the story and the significance of the main character, and how that character drives the story.
With MMO, you lose that feeling of pivotal importance, as you are just another player amid a sea of others. We are dying to play as Revan and the Exile, and to find out how their stories will conclude. This will be made impossible by MMO’ing KOTOR.
Sean on Mon, 29th Dec 2008 10:02 am
I think their and our only hope is that they don’t lose too much money on this (probably profit will be from a bunch of WoW fans wantting a cahnge). Then they can make a good KOTOR again. I would like to see one about the wars with the mandalorians

starwars allready has an mmorpg…So we ‘DONT’ need another one. i would like to complete the story. the idea of an mmo is okay, but if you did not relize they did not have to make a second one, the first one it had a closed ending. but they made a second one leaving an open endeing, the exile flying off into space tofind reaven (correct me if i am wrong). so it is the fault for all the bad comments
Will on Thu, 1st Jan 2009 11:56 am

I will fully admit that I have not read every available bit of info on TOR, but my question is this: Is the MMO really suppose to be part of the KOTOR? I am just wondering if people are confusing it because of the similarity of the name. I’m not sure this necessarily prevents a single player KOTOR from coming out.
Tamminga on Fri, 2nd Jan 2009 10:05 am
Maby KOTOR 3 won’t be as evil as WOW if they simply don’t ask a monthly fee like guildwars i’t wouldn’t be so bad.

Bioware…I love your creative thinkers that go into the process of creating without a doubt some of the best games I’ve ever played not mention KOTOR I, would without a doubt be THE greatest game I have ever played. I think more of because you didnt develop it KOTOR II took a small step down in playbilty however it introduced so good ideas in game play. BUT and this is a huge but, Why would you move this game to a MMO type gameplay. IDK maybe Im the one at fault, maybe you guys will introduce some amazing concept within this MMO gameplay that will blow me away. But as far as I can see, taking the game to a MMO format might severely limit the story as was KOTOR’s greatest strong point. I mean I have never complained about a game until I saw what I just saw. I love KOTOR and I wanted so bad to see how Revan and the Exile ended up along with the True Sith. But this…I just cant see myself getting into this. Please Bioware, your great innovators why would you do this and hinder the name of KOTOR that is characterized with great open ended singles gameplay and is in my mind the greatest game I have ever played. The is no reason to go to the MMO format. You guys tell great stories with your open ended gameplay with you being the crafter of it. However Im not stupid, I know this game will probably stay the way of the MMO. It just sucks that I have waited this long for a MMO. If I wanted a MMO I would buy WOW and pay monthly online fee. I guess I will just play KOTOR 1 & II to sate my hunger for a great SINGLE PLAYER story. MY LIFE IS OVER*SOB*…Hey theres some cake in the refrigerator…OH yeah and my life is over…MHMMM cake yeah.lol
“Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Will on Fri, 9th Jan 2009 9:20 pm
Ohhhhh jeeze. This isn’t good, man. The combat looks like it needs to be smoothed out a lot, but on a more serious note, how can they create a universe that shapes itself around my choices if there are ten million people making such choices every day, all day, all night, 24/7? I don’t know, guys… I think they just killed Knights of the Old Republic. If I never get to find out what happens to Revan, I’m gonna break sometimes legs… and I’m not gonna pay a monthly fee for this game unless it’s the best MMO I’ve ever played. They should just stick to the semi-linear, single player, amazing storylines that we fell in love with when KotOR1 was released… please Bioware, I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt. If this game isn’t freaking amazing, I’m not paying for it. I’ll spend my money on WoW. At least I can trust WoW not to dissapoint me every time I log on.

xbox 360 or pc. 70% said xbox 360 and left so many comments. the other 30% said pc and left no comments what so ever its like they don’t care about pc at all. if u put the game to both systems u got shot but just putting it to pc u got less sales on it.

I don’t understand the whole big deal about MMO’s. I guess I may just be old school when it comes to this kind of stuff but as many have said before me, I want a game where only me, myself and I control the outcome of events throughout the game!! I have played and loved playing the first the first two KOTOR games and have probably played most non-online star wars game and have loved most, however I still have not played a single game that has had it all!!! When it comes to story and the ability to influence the game no other game comes close to KOTOR 1 or 2. However no matter how enthralling I find the story and quest side of the game I feel limited with all of the fighting sequences restricted to the preselected moves. Then on the other side of thing I have just finished playing (for the 5th time) The Force Unleashed on PS3 which I found both graphically (including environmental interaction) and game play to be simple breath taking. However in comparison to the story, quest and ability to affect the story such as sub-missions this game has nothing on the KOTOR games. Which is why to this day with the apparent “power” of today’s gaming consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox360 and the added ability to have massive amounts of data storage on Blu-ray disk at their disposal, why won’t “Lucus Arts” give us a game with all of the individuality and story of KOTOR 2 and all of the game play and graphics of the “Force Unleashed”. I don’t know about the rest of you guys but the mere thought of such a game makes me stop and say, “Why has this not been done yet?”

I would bet they are going for more of a Diablo type MMO, than a WoW type MMO, or atleast I could see that working. Imagine Diablo 2 with single player disabled, and perhaps you only load a server that has made the same “Universe Shaping” decisions you have. As many have said, I’m sad to see that it wont be completing the Revan storyline as 1 and 2 built up to something that could be a really great climax. @ the people complaining about the colors; Really? I find it wholly refreshing that a company is finally making a game that doesn’t look sepia. Also, did you play the first 2? They had a TON of colors in them, although the random glowing purple fields was a bit much, this is Star Wars, its always been a colorful universe. You fight with multi-colored glowing lightsticks ffs.

to all that like kotor1 and kotor2. it be good to put kotor3 both ways meaning keep the sequel going with the exile. then travel back to the old republic and have the mmo trust me when i say that would make a game like that playable it would be good for bioware and lucasarts. also the systems should be xbox360 because of the same thing i said in the last post its true. the creators of the game should have it the way they want it where not the people creating it they are. we just hope you make it good.for the people that has any comments of the facts and options i said put a comment under mine and tell me if you agree.

Hell yeah,I agree with you jbuhan.Bioware and Lucasarts can please everyone in this sittuation. Those for the mmo,and those against it.Put this mmo project on hold for a little bit, then they need to get going on making a Singleplayer kotor 3 for Xbox 360.Then later you can continue on the mmo project.
IF YOU DON’T WANT THIS BEING A MMO AND JUST WANT KOTOR 3 FOR XBOX 360 SIGN THIS PETTION.HERE IS THE TAG .http://www.petitiononline.com/KOTOR3/petition.html

Since Star Wars Galaxies failed miserably due to SOE, I’m sure this game will initally see the return of many of these players who left for wow or other games. I’m looking forward to trying out this game, if it works it’ll be one of the best mmos for a long time.
