“BioWare continues to flesh out the deep Star Wars: The Old Republic universe backstory with the fourth Lance Henriksen-narrated Time Line trailer. While not the most visually stirring type of trailer, fans of the Star Wars universe and BioWare will appreciate the fireside-chat like retelling.”

“According to video game site VG246,

LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez has told GamesIndustry.biz that while no specific business model details have yet been announced for the forthcoming BioWare-developed MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, a variety of options might be utilized – including subscriptions and micro-transactions – in order to appeal globally.

For those readers wondering, subscription is a business model currently used on Star Wars: Galaxies; you pay a monthly fee and you play the game. Micro-transaction means you pay for only the game itself and for whatever additional content you want. Normally it’s not needed for the game, but the balance for that in some MMOs makes it seem like those who pay for stuff have an advantage. We will have to wait and see, but having both would be very unique and interesting– a staple of both Bioware and Lucasarts.

Daniel talks mostly about how different The Old Republic will be from other MMO’s as well as the game’s combat, writing process, gameplay consequences, and much more.

“We have this very long story arc that we can bring things back to. You may have completely forgotten that when you were at level eight, that you killed this guy you didn’t need to kill. His family hasn’t forgotten it and they’re going to find you 20 hours later and hunt you down, and you’re going to have to deal with the ramifications. One of the really fun things there is that you may be a completely different person at that point. You might have decided to give up your crazy ways from when you were a kid. And now at level 40, you’re a pretty good and these guys come to you. You have to decide, ‘Okay, am I going to cover that up? How am I going to handle it?’ These are the things that really make the galaxy feel alive.”

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted and I apologize, I’ve been extremely busy lately. It’s a little late but none the less here is the most anticipated video yet with the first looks at The Old Republic compliments of Gamespot.com.

My impression of the game so far is, it looks great and I would probably play it. I love the fact that the whole game is voiced. Very cool.

Check out the video below:

“One of the most hotly anticipated PC games on GameSpot at the moment is Lucasarts and BioWare’s upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Mixing George Lucas’ epic sci-fi universe with BioWare’s successful role-playing experience seems like a pretty safe bet after the success of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. That game mixed successful MMO pillars, such as combat, progression, and exploration with something BioWare excels at: compelling, narrative-rich storylines. Announced late last year, details about the game have slowly emerged since then, and so far, we’ve seen a number of Empire and Republic classes, including the bounty hunter, smuggler, trooper and Sith. We finally got a brief play of SWTOR as a Sith warrior at GamesCom 2009 in Cologne, Germany.”</i

Ever wonder when the producers of Star Wars: The Old Republic tell you that we’re not getting a Knights of the Old Republic 3 because The Old Republic is like having a KOTOR 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 all in one, just how big the game actually is? Well they aren’t lying to us anyway.

In actuality, The Old Republics script is 10 times as big as Knights of the Old Republics. Yup, that’s right, there are 10 times more lines of dialogue in The Old Republic, so really, it could be considered that this is KOTOR 3-10 and maybe even more. That’s pretty amazing when you think about it, just imagine how long this game is going to take, it’s going to be quite incredible.

According to Ohlen, a quick estimate would put the line count in the hundreds of thousands or if you want to get technical, “approximately 40+ novels worth of content.” and also according to Ohlen, after the game is complete, the audio team at LucasArts would have put in over 4,000 hours in voice-over sessions. That’s crazy!

This game is looking more and more appealing to me all the time. At first, I was kinda disappointed, but now i’m starting to get a little excited, don’t get me wrong though, I would still absolutely love to see a Knights of the Old Republic 3.

Courtesy of Eurogamer.com:

“BioWare has told Eurogamer that Mythic Entertainment will “without a doubt” help out on Star Wars: The Old Republic, as there are “absolutely opportunities to share and learn” within the newly formed RPG/MMO group.

As for BioWare helping Warhammer Online, however, co-founder Greg Zeschuk is not so sure.

“I think we always have lots of opinions to share, Ray and I,” said Zeschuk in an interview published today. “We’ve both played Warhammer, and actually I’ve still been playing it on and off for a while, so I think for us it’s not to much a popularity boost as just the fact that we can probably bring perspectives to the table that will be new and perhaps helpful to the guys from Mythic in the same way from an online perspective they can certainly share with us.

“To give credit to the Austin team [making Star Wars: The Old Republic], we have a number of serious MMO veterans on there, so it’s certainly not neophytes, but there’s absolutely opportunities to share and learn things back and forth.”

BioWare’s other co-founder, Ray Muzyka, will head the RPG/MMO group, with Zeschuk installed as group creative officer. But despite the reshuffle, Zeschuk reckons “not that much” has changed.

“I think because we had been already working side by side within EA, we had already been sharing stuff back and forth, so there wasn’t any, ‘Oh no, now we’re forced to share things, how terrible.’ We’ll just continue what we’re doing, which is actually sharing technology ideas,” he explained.

“I think it will work very much like the Austin studio. Austin is one of the BioWare studios, but they’re very independent. They manage the internal processes, they run it like a BioWare studio, but in the Austin vision.

“They’ve got stuff they’re working on, Mythic’s got stuff they’re working on, and it’s going to be a great team there. We’ve known the people there for quite a while, so in general, they’ve got their agenda, we’ve got our goals, they’ve got their goals, and what Ray and I do at an overall group level is try and make sure that everything is aligned and all the sharing is happening and everyone’s supported and getting the resources they need,” added Zeschuk.

Star Wars: The Old Republic still has no release date, and Warhammer Online hasn’t announced any drastic changes since the merger.

BioWare, of course, has plenty of other projects to worry about: Dragon Age: Origins in particular, which launches on 23rd October for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.”

Source: <a href=ttp://www.examiner.com" target="0">Examinar.com

A compilation of footage from the alpha phase of testing of Star Wars: The Old Republic has leaked out onto the net (below). The footage shows a some of the worlds, a sampling of monsters to fight, and game play mechanics. BioWare has announced three classes so far, The Trooper, The Smuggler, and The Bounty Hunter. The Jedi and the Sith are presumed. The video focuses on The Trooper and Jedi/Sith. Work is already being done on the lightsaber battles, and force abilities. The Trooper is fleshing out as well, with heavy gunfire, a grenade attack, and a flame thrower. In one scene, there is use of a jet pack. This is probably the Bounty Hunter class, if Boba Fett is any indication.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is one of the most anticipated new MMORPGs. It is slated for release in 2010, but still too early for a definitive date. BioWare has said the game will be more story driven than most other MMORPGs. This might be a nice change. This would require a lot of content, as there is supposed to be a separate story for each of the eight classes. The stories can change if the player goes toward the light or dark side. If they make the stories too short, while it will give players the opportunity to create a new character and see another story, it might limit how much time players spend playing the game. If it follows a monthly subscription fee format, this will cost them revenue.

Also, the game will be fully voiced. Again this will require a lot of content and extra costs to hire voice actors. They will be able to get around part of that with alien languages, where the same phrase is repeated while the subtitles are read. This was a mechanic in the two Knights of the Old Republic games. There will be interaction with the Non-Player Characters (NPCs) dialogue, through choice of what the player’s character says. Different choices of dialogue will change the interaction with the NPCs, and how the story unfolds.
